Changing elements

First exhibited at The London Ecology Centre 1989 Statement accompanying the panels which were installed in the foyer of Farnham Road hospital, Guildford in 2004.

My ideas have been based on my sketchbooks, journals and photographs where I have observed the rapidly increasing threat of technology to our environment and the forces shaping ecology. The panels are individually mounted within a black wooden frame (145cm x 90cm) and stitched with strips of silk and yarn on a ground of rug canvas, each expressing an aspect of the four changing elements; Fire, Earth, Water and Air.

Canvas mesh
Inspired by my travels in Britain, India, Thailand, Turkey and Poland. The panels and wall hangings have been stitched onto a grid of canvas mesh using a large needle with strips of dyed silk, synthetic fabrics and yarns.
